The ACS 4200 Aperture Card Scanners are monochrome scanners for microfilm mounted on aperture cards. They are cost effective solutions for fast, high volume scanning and workstation engineering. The Aperture Card Scanners support automatic scanning features such as a built-in automatic card feeder and a separate bin for sorting out and collecting rejected cards.
There is a multitude of microfilms in the world but with the technological progress, digital filing has become a cheaper and thus attractive alternative to microfilm filing. Also, digital filing is more flexible and requires less space than filing on microfilm. Many businesses have therefore launched projects to convert microfilms into digital data, by scanning aperture cards with digitizers from Contex.The ACS scanners are designed for fast and reliable throughput. The automatic card feeding mechanism draws each card from the loading bin, interprets its Hollerith code, stages it for scanning, and then ejects it to the output bin at high speeds while caring for even old and fragile aperture cards. With the card staged in the scanner, the ACS 4200 will scan a typical D-size/A1 CAD drawing at 200 dpi in only 19 seconds. Total throughput time for a batch of these cards is 180 cards/hour on the ACS 4200 model.

Contex ACS 4600 Plus Aperture Card Scanners
The
Contex ACS 4600 Aperture Card Scanners are monochrome scanners for microfilm
mounted on aperture cards. They are cost effective solutions for fast, high volume
scanning and workstation engineering. The Aperture Card Scanners support
automatic scanning features such as a built-in automatic card feeder and a
separate bin for sorting out and collecting rejected

Superiority
The ACS scanners
automatically digitize drawings from E-Size/A0 to A-size/A4 stored on aperture
cards, and oversizes up to 59"x44", with reduction ratios from 37x to
7.5x. The punched Hollerith code in the cards can be used for automatic drawing
size selection and file naming. Put up to 100 cards in the automatic card
feeder for batch processing based on Hollerith code. Cards processed
successfully go to the Output Bin while cards containing unreadable code will
be sorted to the Reject Bin so you can easily find them for reprocessing. Graytones
are captured at 12 bit for maximum precision passing the best 8 bits to the
computer. The All-Digital camera with advanced point of origin image capture
and on-board digital conversion ensures minimum noise and extended dynamic
range. You select the right resolution as measured on the unreduced document to
match your requirements and storage capabilities. The scanners create raster
files, with more than 50 formats selectable, compatible with virtually all third
party software. The ACS scanners are very fast, scanning up to 300 cards/hour,
depending on the size of the unreduced document on the card. A typical
D-size/A1 CAD drawing directly to RLC format takes 20 seconds at 200 dpi on the
ACS 4600 BASE and only 7 seconds on the ACS 4600 PLUS.

Enhancement Power
The ACS 4600 contains
advanced technology for monochrome enhancement providing vivid and clean
results from even poor quality originals. All processing is embedded in the
hardware enabling you to perform powerful image enhancement without overhead
and at speeds incomparable to standard software processing. Take image
enhancement even further with speckle removal and hole-filling performed
on-the-fly as you scan. Electronic deskew lets you automatically align your
image for perfectly horizontally-aligned drawings. When scanning with 256
graytone levels, you can interactively adjust brightness and contrast on-line.
On-board 2D filters for sharpening and softening provide superior results with
a wide variety of input images.

interface options – the efficient FireWire connection and the standard USB

Scanning with the ACS 4600
scanner is controlled through the WIDEimage scanning software with its two viewing
windows that enable you to interactively move around the drawing as you preview
expected results of settings directly on your screen. WIDEimage supports the
ASC scanners with user-friendly menus for setting your drawing size, automatic
scaling, automatic file naming, batch scanning, and Hollerith code
interpretation. You can set a flexible “Scan Window” directly on your image
preview and use it to capture limited portions of the drawing and select image
mirroring and image reversal

Connect the ACS 4600
Aperture Card scanner with a large-format printer and you get the perfect large
format monochrome digital copier for reproducing hard copy drawings from
microfilm. With the scanner’s high precision of details and graytones, users
can enlarge their creations to full display sizes without losing quality. Getting
the right settings for your copy job is easy. Special copy modes, each fitted
to specific original types are supported by the scanner’s digital image
processing enabling you to produce reliable copies of drawings and photos in
which even subtle differences between shades of gray are maintained in the
printed output. The ACS 4600 is the perfect input device for copying of complex
drawings and maps off microfilm mounted on Hollerith cards in only a few
minutes with fully adjustable graytone parameters. Drawing sizes are
automatically read off the card’s Hollerith code or else manually selected by
the user with ratios interpreted by the software.

The Contex AC30 and AC50 offer three basic functions for single card and for batch processing:
• Scan-to-File ~ The function Scan-to-File enables to scan single cards or batches of up to 100 cards directly into a file.
• Scan-to-Print ~
The option Scan-to-Print allows the user to scan single cards or
batches of up to 100 cards and to print them directly over the plotter
connected.
• Scan-to-File and to-Print ~ Scan-to-File and to-Print gives
you the possibility to scan, file, and directly print aperture cards
via the plotter connected. In the single card mode you have the
possibility to print with individual parameters.
Advanced image enhancement
Beside the basic functions the integrated image enhancement tool
offers a number of outstanding image processing functions for the
scanning of single cards in manual mode. This guarantees a high level
digital archiving of the scanned aperture cards.
